JDRF is a community based organization, and while its core mission is finding a cure for diabetes through the support of research, it maintains a commitment to providing social, emotional, and practical support to children and adults with type 1 diabetes, and to their families.

As a part of the Outreach program, JDRF offers:

  • The Online Diabetes Support Team (ODST). The ODST is a person-to-person, e-mail based response program run by JDRF volunteers.
  • The Bag of Hope. A backpack of resources for the newly diagnosed child, as well as their family.
  • The School Advisory Toolkit (SAT). The SAT is a proactive guide for the parent of a child with diabetes and their school caregivers.

The North Central CT/Western MA Chapter also has our own Family Network. This is a free service and it connects Chapter families with one another and offers Support Groups, Mentors, and Events for families and children. The Family Network website can be found by clicking here. Our Chapter website is also a great resource as it contains links to many helpful websites and further information on Outreach and how we are here to help you and your loved ones.

If you have any questions about Outreach or would like to become a part of our Family Network, please contact Erin Wentzell, ewentzell@jdrf.org or at 203-705-8486.
