COBB Presents check for over $9,700 to the JDRF Ride to Cure Program

JDRF would like to offer a special thank you to the Crippled Old Busted Bikers, aka COBB, (pictured above with JDRF North Central CT/Western MA Ride Coach Wendy Lampro and staff member Allegra Itsoga). The group held a spectacular event to benefit the Ride to Cure Program.

On June 30, 2012 114 motorcyclists came together for a 75 mile ride through Berkshire County to benefit the JDRF Ride to Cure program. The ride wrapped up at the Dalton American Legion Hall in Dalton, Mass where five local bands performed, food vendors were available, and kids activities were plentiful. The event raised $9,710. The Ride was held in memory of Kelly Alden-Terranova who lost her 28 year battle with T1 Diabetes at the young age of 41. Alden-Terranova was the sister of Wendy Lampro, the Ride to Cure coach for the JDRF North Central CT/Western MA chapter. I honor her memory by raising money in her name and riding my bicycle in her memory during JDRF Ride to Cure events. This is my third year! said Wendy. Lampro will participate in this years Death Valley Ride in October.

On September 30, the club presented the check to JDRF during a Walk to Cure ceremony in Litchfield CT. The COBB is not a Motorcycle Club; we are a Society aka a Social Club. said COBB Vice President Brian Casella. Simply, we are riders who have fallen off our bikes, overcome our fears, strong-armed our egos, brushed ourselves off, and are back on two (or three) wheels. Our mission is purely social, our goals simple and non-profit oriented. We are here to create all around positive experiences for our members and to perform charitable deeds in and around our community. All COBB Society of WM, Inc. activities are initiated solely with regard to these principles.”

The Ride to Cure is one of JDRFs most popular events! Riders from around the world take on two challenges: raising the money needed to fund research for better treatments and a cure for diabetes, and reaching a personal training goal to prepare for a destination cycling experience. The JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes offers:

Multiple fundraising and mileage options

Training with a USA Cycling certified coach

Ride destinations designed for riders of all fitness levels

Travel to and from destination plus hotel stay included for certain fundraising packages

The journey begins by traveling to one of our destination Ride locations. Meet up with fellow riders and begin a fun-filled weekend including safety seminars, planned excursions, and team building celebrations. It all leads up to the big event … Ride Day. These events are ideal for riders or groups of riders at all levels!
